James Marion "Punkin" Davis

James Marion “Punkin” Davis, husband of Della Tabor Davis, passed away Sun-day, July24, 2011. He was a 68 year old native of Montgomery County, son of the late James E. and Hettie E. Wilson Davis, Army veteran of the Vietnam War, retired employee from Bluegrass Army Ordinance, and a member of the Baptist Church and Mt. Sterling Masonic Lodge #23, serving as Past Master and District Deputy twice. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sharon Davis of Jefferson-ville, a son, Tony H. (Jackie) Davis of Mt. Sterling, 2 grandsons, James Christopher Davis of Lexington and Derek Allen Jones of Mt. Sterling, a great-grandson, Jacob Allen Jones of Mt. Sterling, a brother, Leslie “Beaky” Davis of Mt. Sterling, special grand-niece, Brittany Davis of Jeffersonville and special friend, Travis Carpenter. His funeral will be 1:00 Wednesday at Herald & Stewart Home for Funerals with burial in Lovely Cemetery where American Legion will have military rites. Ethel Anderson Parker, widow of Carl Parker, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011. She was a 94 year old native of Montgomery County, daughter of the late Campbell and Mary Branham Anderson, a homemaker and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She is survived by a sister, Elsie Anderson of Mt. Sterling, and several nieces and nephews. Billy M. Rogers Sr., husband of Elsie M. Gray Rogers, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2011. He was a 68 year old native of Mt. Sterling, son of the late Charles and Pearl Mae Meadows Rogers, an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, and retired carpenter and employee from C.E. Crews citrus grove company in Florida. He was a member of the Kentucky Colonels, American Legion, and Grace Fellow-ship Tabernacle. In addition to his wife, he is survived by 3 daughters, Sydney (Greg) Wiley of Sebring, Florida, Millie (Danny) Barker and Melinda (Jimmy) Wiley, both of West Liberty, 2 sons, Billy Rogers Jr and Thomas (Sally) Rogers, both of Mt. Sterling, 5 grandsons, Justin, Chris, Gregory, Mathew and Joshua, 9 great-grandchildren, 3 sisters, Elsie (Bob) Carpenter of Jeffersonville, Ola Francis Browning and Peggy (Yale) Harvard, both of Mt. Roberta Sydnor Hunt, widow of Calvin H. Hunt Sr. passed away Monday, July 11, 2011. She was an 87 year old native of Knoxville, TN, daughter of the late James Thomas and Louise Hilliard Sydnor, and a member of the First Baptist Church. She was a retired employee of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service, a member of Montgomery County Homemakers and Fair Board, a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Troop #610 leader and a 4-H volunteer for over 50 years. She is survived by a daughter, Roberta Louise Hunt of Springfield, 2 sons, Calvin (Debra) Hunt Jr. and Samuel Thomas (Roberta) Hunt, all of Mt. Sterling, 3 grandchildren, Tom Hunt Jr., Wesley Hunt and Brittany Hunt, a great-grand-daughter, Sydney Mae Hunt, and a brother, James Thomas Sydnor of Lynchburg, VA.
